INDIA SONG REVISITED. Video, duration 20 min. 2016
The castle stands there, decayed, at the edge of Bois de Boulogne, Paris, not in India, as I had believed. This is where the film India Song by Marguerite Duras was shot in 1975, with Delphine Seyrig as Anne-Marie Stretter, the sad wife of the French Ambassador. The façades were mouldering even then, conducive to the atmosphere of colonial decay. This video, ”India Song Revisited”, uses scenes from Duras’ film together with recent footage from the castle as it appears today. The dolls representing Marguerite Duras and Delphine Seyrig/Anne-Marie Stretter, observers at first, are gradually drawn into the action.
